How Mariner Is Different
Mariner is different than other wealth management firms in a variety of ways. One way in which we’re different is our business model. Our advisors are asked to do one thing, to provide clients wealth advice. Our advisors are not out soliciting new clients. Their objective is to retain the clients they currently have and develop an intimate relationship with them. In order to create that intimate relationship, we take a variety of responsibilities that advisors are traditionally charged with and remove them and simply have them focus on working with their clients, as well as limiting the amount of clients that they can serve. As a firm, we have a separate team of professionals that develops new business and it is their goal to understand who those people are and identify the right advisor they should be with.
Another way in which Mariner is different is our client experience. We have a process of engaging all new clients. The goal is to take them through a process, to truly help them identify what is most important to them and we do that by understanding who our clients are and, where they came from. So we ask a lot of questions about their past, about money, about their families, about their values and once we understand their past, we get caught up on where our clients are today and ultimately where they want to go and what matters most to them, because all of our clients are unique. They have different opportunities, different challenges, and many have different values. Our client experience is designed to help them understand who they are and where they want to go and as part of this process, we begin to understand what’s most important to them.
At Mariner, we have a variety of different professionals all under one roof. Having this experience helps our clients and their advisors make educated decisions, as well as partner with other professionals outside of Mariner. So for business owner clients, we have experience in the areas of business valuation, mergers and acquisitions, and helping them with a succession plan of that business. For all of our clients, we have tax professionals to help clients evaluate and implement a variety of different tax strategies. Our team of tax professionals help our clients with complicated tax issues, like trust planning and multi-generational wealth, as well as less complicated issues like taking distributions from a tax-deferred retirement account. Mariner has their own trust company and trust planning can play a variety of different roles in one’s wealth plan. Having that as a resource gives us the ability to carry out our clients’ wishes well after they’re gone and provide them truly a blank canvas to help them accomplish what’s most important to them. These services allow our clients to know that we can help protect their assets from creditors, taxes, and potentially themselves. Perhaps most importantly, these services can help prevent future arguments and family hostility. Another resource we’re able to provide clients is experience in the area of risk management. At Mariner, our advisors are passionate about helping clients and have the technical ability and resources to truly take care of those clients. We have advisors across the country, and on a regular basis they are sharing best practices so we continue to learn from each other.
Mariner is a registered investment advisory firm. We are also privately held.
