Mike is a Certified Public Accountant/Personal Financial Specialist, Chartered Life Underwriter ® and Chartered Financial Consultant ®.

Experience and Education

Upon joining Mariner, Mike was instrumental in helping the firm acquire the national CBIZ Wealth Management division in late 2010. He had been with CBIZ Wealth Management for 22 years as a vice president and managing director. In 1997, CBIZ acquired Robert D. O’Byrne and Associates, where Mike was a shareholder and co-director of Retirement and Wealth Management Services.

Prior to joining CBIZ/Robert D. O’Byrne, Mike was the owner and president of Pension Administration and Design, Inc. He started his career working as an auditor and tax accountant in the Los Angeles and Denver offices of Ernst & Young.

Mike has a bachelor’s degree from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.

Personal Interests

Mike has been very active in his community’s charitable and civic organizations throughout his career. He served as a national board member of the Society of Financial Service Professionals and as Kansas City Chapter president. Other offices he has held include treasurer and member of the Board of Trustees of Notre Dame de Sion Schools and president of the Board of Redemptorist Social Services Center. He also was a sponsor of the St. Patrick’s Senior Ball.

Mike and his wife have been married for 37 years, and he is a proud father of three daughters. He is a Kansas City Chiefs season ticket holder.
